The section of the Sieg Railway between Eitorf and Wissen through Au was opened on 1 August 1860.〔 〕 On 1 May 1887, the branch was opened to Altenkirchen,〔 〕 connecting with the Upper Westerwald Railway to Limburg and additional tracks was added at Au.
